Artsweek
Friday & Saturday
Various Locations throughout Peterborough
Also taking place in Peterborough is the final weekend of the Artsweek Festival. In public locations, throughout downtown are interventions and installations by local artists.
Some highlights from Artsweek:
The Lady Barber and the Hairy Man. Come to Henry’s on Hunter for a real close shave in this surreal romp through some hairy Freudian theories, high anxieties and base desires. Henry’s Barber Shop (172 Hunter Street West). Performances on September 25, 26, and 27 at 9 pm each night.
Ring Around the Rosie: Through film, sound and animation, Viktoria Lee-Bouillon creates a nightmare like space from a child’s perspective, focusing on historical creatures such as the “incubi” and the folklore tales of “hag-ridden” dimensions. Studio 303 (148 Hunter St. West, Unit 303). Screenings at 8pm each night on September 22, 24, 25 and 26.
BLINK: a series of temporary public art installations by seven visual and new media artists in non-traditional downtown locations including, but not limited to, storefront window spaces. Installations will be on display for the duration of Artsweek. Free guided walking tours of BLINK installations departing at 12pm and 3pm from Millennium Park fountain on Friday and Saturday. Participating artists will be in attendance to speak about their work and answer questions.
The Blue Tomato, art shop and small gallery will also host Outdoor Café with art and music each night, September 22-26 7-11 pm in the alley North of Hunter St.

Saturday, September 26, 9:45 am - 12:30 pm
Comfort Hotel & Suites, Kawartha Room, 1209 Lansdowne Street, (709) 740-7000
DIY Generation Y - Doug Back, Guest Speaker
Saturday, September 26, 10:00 am – 11:15 am
Artist Doug Back will be joining us Saturday morning to talk about his experiences with emerging artists, and the influences that the internet is having on their work. He will be discussing the trends he is seeing as artists are no longer constrained by urban environments to create their work. Emerging artists use various online media outlets including Make Magazine, ooject, vvork and hackaday to disseminate their art. While reflecting on the ways in which the web is decentralizing this information, he will also focus on the relevancy of ARCs which provide artists with a place to do the “flesh meeting stuff”.
Doug Back has exhibited his work nationally and internationally. He has been Technical Director at Trinity Video and a founding member of the YYZ Gallery and Inter-Access in Toronto. He has been an advisor to the Canada Council for the Arts and the Ontario Arts Council, and was awarded the Petro Canada Award in 1987. Doug is a faculty member in the Integrated Media Department at OCAD.
Please note that ARCCO’s advertised panel on cultural diversity has been postponed and will take place later during this programming year.

Artspace, 379 Aylmer Street, North (705) 748-3883
2:00 pm – 3:30 pm: Blow Horn - ARCCO Members’ Forum
Please join us for “blow horn”, this year’s members` forum, facilitated by Iga Janik and Derek Liddington. This forum will provide the opportunity to discuss the shifts in language within our community. Some key questions include - How do we define ourselves? Have we adopted “business” language to serve our communities better, or is it fallout of our relationships with funders? Who are we accountable to, and how does this reflect our programming choices? Can a 35 year-old ARC exist on its own terms? Do all ARCs share a common definition? Please come and join this lively discussion armed with your key words!
