This issue of ARCCO's e-bulletin contains
everything you need to know about the upcoming three-days planned
exclusively for ARCCO members. Below you will find schedules and agendas
for all events including the Member’s Forum, Face to Face with
Funders, ARCCO AGM (complete with the bios of the nominated new Board
members) as well as information about ARCCO’s Best Practices
Workshop Series Part 3, GOVERNANCE: TAKING INVENTORY. This professional
development workshop, which is also open to IMAA Members, has been
organised in direct response to requests from our members. To ensure
that this weekend is productive, ARCCO has confirmed the participation
of knowledgeable resource people and representatives of funding bodies
who will present information and respond to our questions. You won't

that was sent to you by email earlier this fall.

please bring the membership/registration form and a cheque with you.
There will be a registration table where you can complete your registration
when you arrive. Please note that the AGM is open to ARCCO members

Workshop
Spaces are limited for this workshop. Registration is based on a first
come, first serve basis. If you haven’t already registered yet
please contact the ARCCO office, by phone or email, so that we can
hold space/s for you. You can bring your registration form with a
cheque to Toronto Arts Council, where the workshop is being held,
but you must contact the ARCCO office ASAP, to confirm your registration.
MEMBERSHIP FEES: Fees were due as of July 1, 2005
and all members are required to pay their fees prior to participating
in these events. Please see the fee structure on the second page of
the attachment.
FEES: A registration fee of $100 is to be paid by
all member centres as agreed upon April 15, 2002. The funds go toward
travel subsidy for members outside of Toronto.
BOARD MEMBERS: All Board members please note that
you must pay the membership and registration fee to maintain the membership
of your centre. [ ] TRAVEL
SUBSIDIES TO ATTEND AGM
Travel subsidy is available for ARCCO members only, for one representative
per centre. The travel subsidy fund cannot exceed the total registration
fees collected. ARCCO will aim for 100% reimbursement of eligible
travel costs; however, it may be necessary to pro-rate at a lower
percentage. There is no travel subsidy form. Please save your receipts
for actual costs, i.e.: gas receipts for travel by car, economy
air/train/bus travel and submit to ARCCO by mail after our meetings.
Please note that this does not include in-town travel (buses, cabs,
parking, etc.). The ARCCO mailing address is listed below.

Please Note:
This session will take place in
Room 1320 of OCAD. The room is in the OCAD Annex - not in
the Sharpe Centre - on the east side of McCaul in the Village
on the Grange. The street entrance has purple signage and is just
south of McDonald’s. From there, proceed through the food court,
past the security desk to the elevators. The room is on the third
floor at the end of the hallway on the right hand side.

we'll be creating a speakers list with questions for the

This year, ARCCO has invited
funders from both federal and provincial agencies to participate
in a half day of dialogue with our members from across the province.
We are pleased to have representatives from The Canada Council
for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council and the Ontario Trillium
Foundation. This important forum enables funders to present
new program initiatives and program criteria, to review their
mandates with the membership and provide direct feedback to
members’ questions. This session also provides a unique
opportunity for the membership to address their concerns collectively,
and learn about new programs, as well as changes to programs
and budgets which affect artist-run centres.

Taking Inventory
Governance Issues for Staff and Board at Media and Visual Artist-Run
Centres
This workshop, designed exclusively for ARCCO
and IMAA members - will aim to demystify governance,
and focus on providing realistic approaches to the core issues
of governance at your centres. It will be a full day of information
sharing in order to address governance challenges faced by the
artist-run sector. A wide range of topics will be covered, including
an overview of board models, board roles and responsibilities,
recruitment, orientation, development/training, planning, evaluation,
succession planning, as well as board relationship with staff
and members.
The morning will consist of information session with consultant
Judy Wolfe. Judy will provide an overview of governance and
share her observations of the recurring thematic challenges
that she has observed within the artist run sector, over the
last 3 years.
The morning session will be followed by an afternoon Panel
Discussion where panelists will provide pragmatic examples
from their own experience. Following the panel discussion, all
panelists and participants will participate in one Roundtable
Discussion that will follow up on issues raised during
the panel presentations.

| BIOS OF THE
CANDIDATES |
Penny McCann
Penny McCann is a media artist, curator, and director
of SAW Video, an artist-run video production and presentation
centre in Ottawa. Active in the arts community for over a decade,
Penny served as chair of the board of Galerie SAW Video from
1992-95 and as president of the Independent Film and Video Alliance
(now IMAA) from 1996-99. She has also been an active member
of Available Light Screening Collective, an experimental film
and video exhibition collective in Ottawa. As a practicing media
artist, she has screened and exhibited her work at festivals
and galleries throughout Canada and internationally.

Heather Webb
Heather Webb is a Toronto-based arts administrator,
art historian and published poet with 14 years of experience
working in public galleries and artist-run centres. She worked
at the National Gallery of Canada as a Curatorial Assistant,
Canadian Art Dept., and as Assistant Archivist from 1991-1997
and her desire to work with artist-run centres was cemented
during her secondment in 1996 to Art Metropole to work on the
AM archive collection with AA Bronson in advance of its deposit
with the National Gallery of Canada.
Since leaving the NGC, Heather has been the Director of Artspace,
Peterborough’s artist-run centre, from 1998-2000 and was
hired as the Associate Director at Open Studio in 2000. Since
March 2003 she has been the Director at Open Studio and was
responsible for carrying out the physical relocation of the
centre in December 2003. Heather
Webb has an MA in Art History from Concordia University with
a specialization in contemporary Canadian art.

Report
from Nominations Committee
Chair and President Danielle Tremblay
The focus of the Board of Directors over this past year has been on
implementing ARCCO’s Strategic Plan, goals and developing the
organization. In keeping with these goals, the board established a
nominations committee to prepare for the upcoming elections. The mandate
of this year's committee was to acknowledge ARCCO's priorities, and
consider the skills and representation required to best fill the vacancies
and to build a well balanced and effective board. We consulted with
many members to determine their interest in serving on the board and
came up with our recommendation.
The Nominations Committee presented their recommendations to the board
and the following proposal was accepted by the board to present to
the membership at the AGM.
