Update Report from Nominations Committee
Chair and President Danielle Tremblay
The focus of the Board of Directors over the past year has been on implementing the goals and development of the organization within the next few years. In keeping with these goals, the board established a nominations committee to prepare for the upcoming elections. The mandate of this year's committee was to acknowledge ARCCO's priorities, and consider the skills and representation required to best fill the vacancies and to build a well balanced and effective board. We consulted with many members to determine their interest in serving on the board and came up with our recommendation.
The Nominations Committee presented their recommendations to the board and the following proposal was accepted by the board to present to the membership at the AGM.
Nominated for election at the AGM:
New Board members
Jessie Lacayo, Galerie 101.Gallery 101
Clive Robertson, Modern Fuel Gallery
Jeffrey Matt, YYZ Artists Outlet
Bios of the candidates
Jessie Lacayo
Jessie Lacayo lives in Ottawa and has been working at Gallery 101 for the past year as Director/Curator. Before this position, Jessie worked as Curator-in-Residence at Open Space in Victoria, British Columbia, (2000-2002). Jessie holds an MFA and a Specialized Diploma in Intercultural Education and Training from the University of Victoria.
Ms. Lacayo brings to the ARCCO Board strong networking resources within culturally diverse groups, aboriginal communities and businesses. She also brings strong fundraising knowledge and creative problem solving abilities. Ms. Lacayo offers a unique perspective and encourages the connection of artist-run centres with francophone, bilingual, First Nations, Inuit and culturally diverse communities. In a very practical way, Jessie brings a committed work ethic, and the ability to work in groups with empathy and sensitivity.
Jeffrey Matt
Jeffrey Matt is an arts administrator and a graduate from the York University MA program. Jeffrey is currently one of the co-Directors at YYZ Artists' Outlet. While there, he has continued the rapid expansion of publishing at YYZ and worked with the Board of Directors on a revisiting of policies and bylaws. His area of interest is the relationship between pre-digital technology and art. He has also worked with the Ontario Association of Art Galleries, and various other public art galleries.
Clive Robertson
Clive Robertson is a media artist and cultural critic who has published much on arts policy and funding particularly as it affects artist-run centres. He is currently a Board Member of Modern Fuel, Kingston and teaches video and performance, contemporary art history and policy studies at Queen's University. Clive is a founding editor/publisher of Fuse magazine and served as a National Spokesperson and Managing Director for ANNPAC/RACA. In 2002, Clive was nominated for a Governor-General's Outstanding Achievement Award in the Visual and Media Arts.
